A red planet with a space ship in the foreground

I absolutely love the Old Man’s war series by John Scalzi, and this is the second time I’ve read it.

The premise is that at the age of 75, earth humans from wealthy ations have the option of joining the Colonial Defence Forces, having their consciousness transferred to a young, super-strong, green-skinned body, and fighting aliens in the service of the Colonial Union - humanity’s off-earth arm.

The series follows a variety of characters in the CDF as the come to grips with their new life.

In addition to what you’d expect from what are essentially war novels, the books are epic in scale, and also very funny.
