A baby bird - maybe a blackbird

It’s always good to learn new things, and it’s that time of year when I start to think what new hobby I should take up for 2023.

In previous years I’ve gone for woodworking (very bad at this and gave up), allotment gardening (enjoyed this for about three years), caravanning (still doing it), Java and Android development (released a few apps then lost interest), fishkeeping (great until Mog the evil catfish murdered everything else in the tank), guitar (still occassionally play), self-hosting web services (always will), messing with Raspberry Pis, and some more dalliances, which I have doubtless forgotten.

This year I think I’m going to try JavaScript. It ties in nicely with my love of self-hosted services, and I will be able to build complete apps for local and web. I already have some coding experience with Python and Java, and I imagine (but have no real idea) that the basics will be more-or-less the same.

I don’t particularly want to build websites with Javascript, as basic HTML and CSS will do in most situations, but the possibilities are interesting.
