The Commonwealth Saga (Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained) by Peter F. Hamilton
I absolutely love Peter F. Hamilton’s work, and this isn’t the first time I’ve read the first two books in the series.
The scope is vast, and know details are two small to ignore.
The basic plot is that in the near future, wormhole technology is developed by a pair of irresponsible students. Flash forward a couple of hundred years and the Intersolar Commonwealth spans hundreds of linked worlds, and is more-or-less owned by a handful of fabulously wealthy grand families. People don’t die anymore - they just undergo rejuvenation therapy.
When an aging astronomer discovers the instantaneous envelopment of two stars by a set of Dyson Spheres, the Commonwealth sends a starship to investigate - and all hell breaks loose.
This is science fiction at its very best - although you’ll need to set aside a few weeks to get through both volumes.
