Lizzie Rutland art exhibition with paintings on display at the Holy Mackerel Tattoo Cafe in New Brighton

Wirral Open Studio tour has taken place every year for the last several years, and involves dozens of individual exhibitions taking place accross the Peninsula, where artists show of their work and members of the public can visit and / or buy artworks.

This year’s programme had both good and bad timing.

The bad part of the timing was that it was held on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June. It’s a great weekend, but there were a lot of other things going on throughout the WIrral (and the UK as a whole). Chief among these was the Wirral Viking festival which pulled in a lot of people to the south of the area.

The second event was that it was Fathers’ Day - a day to celebrate you dear old Dad, and make him dinner.

And it was this coincidence of timing that made this Fathers’ Day extra special, as my daughter held her first post-education art exhibit at the Holy Mackerel Tattoo cafe in New Brighton, alongside three other artists. She was fab, her art was fab, and it made me happy to see her shine as an artist. The growing confidence is justified as she made a few hundred quids worth of sales. Fantastic stuff!
