A beautiful pond surrounded by greenery

Actually, we’re just back from a summer holiday. As usual, we did not go abroad, but instead towed the caravan and planted it in someone’s garden for a week.

While that’s technically true, the garden is attached to a farmhouse, and is a Caravan Club certified location on Dark Ark Lane in the Manley / Mouldsworth area, near Frodsham.

It’s a great site and a great location. The middle of Chester is half an hour away by car or train, and there’s a two-lake fishery on the other side of the road. Bonus points for pub (The Goshawk) and train station being 20 minutes walk.

I don’t usually fish, but the daughter does, and we bought her a rod for her birthday last year. We didn’t catch anything, but sitting by the side of a lake drinking white wine in the summer sun makes the entire thing worth it.

We bought fish from Morrissons in Frodsham, and I think the drama of actually catching something and having to deal with a desperately thrshing fish-out-of-water would have put a dampener on the vibes.

Picnics and barbecues were had, and some charity shop finds included The Boomtown Rats’s The Fine Art of Surfacing, Madness’s Complete Madness, and Kate Bush’s The Whole Story. We have a record player in the van, and yeah… it was great.
